Build 002Up next

Break it, fix it

Our first real circuit — and all the ways to interrupt it. Switches, loose wires, and turning things off and on on purpose.

Before we start

A circuit is a complete path electricity can follow. What happens if we break that path on purpose — and then put it back together?

The goal

Understand a circuit by interrupting it on purpose, so “on” and “off” stop being magic.

How we'll do it

  1. 01Build the simplest circuit that lights something up.
  2. 02Add a switch and feel what “open” and “closed” really mean.
  3. 03Introduce breaks on purpose — a loose wire, a bad join — and hunt them down.
  4. 04Fix it, then break it a different way and fix it again.
